Richard Villa
Richard Villa
Raised in Compton, CA., from immigrant parents, Richard Villa is a bilingual (Spanish / English) stand-up comedian and actor whose comedic influences draw from life experiences growing up as a Mexican-American Latino male in the United States.

He is the longtime Friday night host of the Hollywood Improv comedy club and the first Latino to land the coveted hosting gig performing alongside some of the comedy world’s top talent including Gabriel Iglesias, Jeff Garcia, Carlos Mencia, Mike Epps, Orlando Jones and Russell Peters. His successful English-speaking show, “Refried Fridays” has been replicated at various Improv clubs across California with Villa leading the search for talent.

Villa began performing stand-up in his early-20’s and left a successful career as a mechanical engineer to pursue a new passion. Gaining quick momentum, Villa soon began writing, producing sketches and performing comedy that led him to star in “Habla” on HBO, “Mind of Mencia” on Comedy Central and as voiceover talent for MTV’s animated series, “The Chico y Guapo Show.” In addition, Villa has landed supporting and co-starring roles in productions for Lions Gate, Vanguard Cinema, Cine Mexicano and Distrimax.

His crossover appeal in both the English and Spanish market opened new doors and has led Villa to star in various Spanish language specials like “Sigue la Risa” on DIRECTV Latino, “Stand-Parados” with comedian Adal Ramones on Televisa and a variety of other comedy specials on Comedy Central Mexico, Galavision and Azteca America. Villa is a key player in the rising stand-up comedy scene in Mexico City and can easily be credited in changing the dynamics of stand-up comedy in Latin America by bringing some American stylistics to performances.

Villa has toured the U.S. with comedian Erik Blake for the “Refried Comedy Tour” and was invited by the U.S. Military to perform four tours of “Combat Comedy Tour” which included visits servicemen and women in Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Djibouti, and Saudi Arabia.
